 | Stuck power valves on Arctic Cat 600 |
|
| I'm working on a friends 2002 Cat ZL600 with stuck power valves.
I've played with it two days already.
I pulled both jugs off the engine so I could work on them on the bench.
I've tried every carb cleaner, Acetone, Lacquer thinner, minerals spirits,
penetrating oil I could find. Nothing will free them up.
Yes I took out the screws holding the retaining plate. I've done this
before on another machine - no problem. These just won't come out.
I can move them both back and forth maybe a 1/4" but that is it. I tried
using a wood dowel stick and pounding them out from inside the cylinders. No
Luck. How do you guys remove them? They have to be carboned up big time. I'm tempted to push them down to the low position, lock them there and put
the engine back together. The rider doesn't hammer on his machine. He has
been riding it for a couple years with non working power valves as it is...
---------------------
I think I would try putting the cylinder into a pre-heated oven.
The aluminum cylinder will heat up faster and expand more than the steel
valve will... which might buy you enough clearance to yank them out?
