 | Antique Bed Rail Hooks |
|
I am trying to find a source for cast iron bed rail hooks. I am
rebuilding/refinishing a 100 year old walnut bed and one of the hooks for
the bed rail receiver is broken. The piece meaasures (on the face) ~ 3.5"
long & ~ 3/4" wide. The hooks are 3/4" high x 0.5" wide. I do not have the
"on-center" measurements (hook center to hook center) with me and I have not
taken it out of the rail to see the overall dimensions or whether or not it
could be repaired at a welding shop. The problem is the piece of iron that
connects between the 2 "hooks" is broken off. The other three brackets are
fine.

I'd start by digging here: http://www.vandykes.com/subcategory/1/ Lee Valley also has some modern bed hooks: http://tinyurl.com/2qf9u I didn't see anything that really sounds like your description, so you might
have to retrofit something, or else repair the original hardware. If all
the parts are there, and still fit together reasonably well, it should be
possible to weld the thing good as new. If it were me, I think I might get rid of the bed hooks entirely and try
some more modern hardware. My (60 year old) bed is very wiggly, and I've
been meaning to do that for years. Then again, while my bed is old, it's
also butt ugly, from one of America's most tasteless periods in furniture,
so I don't really care if what I do to it changes its character.
