| I have to sell one of these lathes for someone who can no longer safely use it.
Because I have no lathe experience of any kind (metal or wood) someone on
rec.ww suggested I post here.
Ihave someone interested but I need to set a fair price based on the following: Myford ML-7 Lathe - 1/3hp motor-36" bed
live center with 7 points (BusyBee)
Drill chuck arbor-Mod.B460-MT#2
Machine vise-Myford MA71- + two 3"circ blades(1/8"x1 & 1/64"x1)
Fixed steady-Myford 1412
Rear tool post-Myford 1468
Chuck-3 jaw(2 types of jaws)-Burnerd 1580-01005-Iron Body-England
Lt.Duty Independant Chuck-4 jaw-6"-Pratt-Burnerd-#1548-16130-Rev.hard jaws -Iron body-Mounting Myford 34M
Faceplates-4" - 4-1/2" - 7"
Vertical Slide Swivelling-Myford-68/2
12 pc. cutter set-Myford-unused
8 pc. gear set-30,35,38,40,45,50,55,70
Box of various-tool rest, screw pt.center-MT This equipment is in excellent shape based on appearance and how meticulous
this person kept his shop. I thought about buying this stuff for myself and
using it as a woodworking lathe as I want to get into some lathe work, but I
was told by the person who is interested in buying it to do some metal-turning
that it would wreck the lathe in short order (don't know if some of that is
because he is interested in it himself). Instead I will buy his UNIMAT DB-200
lathe and do some pens/pencils turning (the buyer said the same about not using
this lathe for woodturning either but I found the owners manual & it shows how
to do wood turning-hope I don't regret it). The owner of this equip. used it for repairing and making clocks as a hobby. Any ideas on pricing this stuff would be greatly appreciated as the person is
moving into a seniors home shortly

A metal turning lathe really is quite unsuitable for anything but very occasional
wood turning. The two machines are quite different. Moreover, a wood turning lathe is much simpler than a metal turning lathe, so you
will get much more machine for your money. Or buy one of the metal lathes and cut metal. I cannot really advise on the price of a second hand ML-7, other than to suggest
you buy some mags. and look at the classified adverts. You should also find out
how much the same kit would be new.
