| Do others use this super glue much in small woodworking projects? I
have recently been turning to this for small box construction and other
uses. On in particular was a difficult to clamp project where I used
yellow glue but put a bit of CA glue, like Norm uses brads, to hold it
in place until the glue dries. I do find that I use the accelerant
spray on occasion. Especially when using oily woods like teak. Has
anyone had any catastrophic problems with delamination not attributable
bad technique? I recently made some boxes to house ash baseball bat shaped pens I made
for little league coach gifts. I turned the bat pens on my Jet
mini-lathe and the boxes were made from cherry. I routed out the inside
of a 2 inch wide board to form a U-shape, and used slot hinges to mate
the top and bottom. Side view of top and bottom -> |___| The top
was cut down to about 1/2 inch high and the bottom is 3/4 high. I then used the CA glue to attach the sides of the box and sanded all
sides with my belt/disk sander. A quick oil finish and wal-la 4 quick
gifts completed in just a couple of hours.

-More than I probably should. I build guitars for giggles, and it seems that
the CA bottle is never far, particularly for fixing/assuring cosmetic
aspects of the work. -My use of CA on finished items is limited but for jig and fixture making it
is indispesible. I use Super T. -One of the guys at work uses thinned down ca to stabilize cocobolo and iron
wood knife handle blanks. He uses an old pressure cooker, a compressor, and one of those venturi
vacuum pump devices. He thins the ca with acetone, then puts the wood in
his pressure cooker, and covers it with the ca solution. He then cycles the
air pressure from about 10 psi of vacuum to 20 pounds of pressure, two or
three times in about five minutes, and then hold the pressure for about ten
minutes. He then takes out the wood and lets it dry on a sheet of waxed paper for a
few days before cutting it to rough shape with a scroll saw. He's been doing it for just over a year now, and his handles are quite
pretty, and void free.
