 | Request: Baby cradle information |
|
| A friend of mine has recently me told she will be having a baby in late
October. I would like to build her an old fashioned baby cradle as a gift.
The type of cradle I am talking about sits on the floor resting on runners
and can be easily rocked with your foot. My request is two-fold. First, does anyone know of a good source of woodworking plans for this type
of project? I have checked the local home improvement centers with no luck. I
am now hoping there is a good mail order company out there that can help me. Second, can any one give me a good recommendation on a finish that would be
non-toxic to a newborn? (Not having children myself, I never thought about
teething until another friend brought it up!) I plan to build the cradle out of
white pine and would stain it and then like to protect it with some type of
finish.
---------------------
Request: Baby cradle information I went through the same search a year ago and found a plan
close to what I wanted in Woodsmith magazine, couple of
years back. I think it was on the cover. I ended up modifying
the plans to suit my preferances but made the cradle out
of cherry with maple, walnut, and cherry spindles. Finished
it with liquid beeswax. (My main modification was to make
it a bench when turned upside down. Little ones only stay in
a cradle for a couple of months...)
